Language coverage
Falcon 2 11B is trained mainly on English, with German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Romanian and Czech in the mix, and TII explicitly warns that other languages will not generalise well. Qwen 2.5 is built for a broad multilingual set including Chinese.
Documented differences
- Parameters: 11B against roughly 7B.
- Context: 8,192 tokens configured on Falcon 2 11B; Qwen 2.5 7B supports a longer window, with variants offering more.
- Vision: Falcon 2 has a VLM on the same backbone; Qwen ships separate vision models.
- Licence: Qwen 2.5 7B is Apache 2.0 for most sizes; Falcon 2 adds an acceptable use policy on top of an Apache 2.0 base.
Choosing between them
For English and European languages on a single GPU, either works and the decision usually comes down to licensing and tooling. For Chinese or a wider multilingual spread, Falcon 2 11B is the wrong tool and TII says so on the model card.
